I stumbled into Ancestry.com, or rather a friend pushed me into the site. It's funny, I watched my dad in the last years of his life search for ancestors, friends, old neighbors, teachers, etc. and didn't really see the appeal. Fast forward & here I sit scouring old copies of census records, draft records, gravestone photos, and collecting them into an organized frame showing my DNA. It's amazing to think about all of those once-living relatives. So many given names are repeated. There is even a man with my brother's name and same birth date 100 years prior. My daughter always complained that I gave her a "little house on the prairie" name (Susannah) and indeed that name can be found far back in our history. Having sat here for the last hour & 1/2 tracing back through the centuries I'm pretty sure I'm not done with this. ...but for now I have plenty that I can do in the present. It's going to be another blazingly hot day so I need to be active around here before I just don't feel like doing anything...
